WIPW number 19

Sadly, I was all proud of myself working away on my crochet hat and got about two thirds done, when I  realized that it was WAY too big...  so, I frogged (what else could I do?) and restarted it with a smaller hook.  Now I'm worried it's going to be too small...  I really have no business crocheting.  I don't know what I'm doing with it and have no idea about crochet gauge and therefore, end up with problems...  oh well, I like the pattern and worst case scenario, it will be a child's hat!!!  Right?!  So, here it is in all it's lavender glory:

Hat redo

The pattern is here.  It is a child's pattern, but I like it and wanted it for an adult...  oh well, either way, someone will wear it, right?  For more WIP's, hop on over to Tami's blog!

"U" is for... Unicorns!

I almost was going to do "U" is for umbrella because we have had such a rainy last few days, but that made me feel dreary and sad... so, what always makes you feel happy and bright?  Unicorns of course!!!  When I was younger, I had a unicorn collection all over my shelves.  I've kept some of them and they are on the window sill in the spare bedroom.  They're kinda hard to get to since there is furniture in front of them but I couldn't part with them so there they stay.  Here are a few pics, kinda hard to see since they are mostly white and the light from the window blends in.  But, you get the idea....

Unicorn

That's a horse book end next to it - I think someone put a quarter there too - I didn't notice that til now!

Unicorns

Unicorn

Yes, that is a mini liberty bell next to that one and another horse made of marble on the other side of it.

So, that is it for my unicorns... for more ABC's pop on over to Charlotte's blog - do it in a hurry, we're getting to the end of the alphabet!

Squee Sunday post # 12

Not so much of a Squee as an "OH, I'm gonna meet my new Hebrew School class today!!!"  I teach Hebrew Reading at my synagogue and will meet my new group today.  They are always so cute!!  So, I'm excited!  I've spent the weekend grading tests... I need a new method - I don't want to spend every weekend this way but there is no other time to grade them...

I am looking for grants so I can buy more computer equipment for my classroom also, so if anyone has a suggestion, please fill me in!!!

FO Friday!

This week was a slow knitting week with all the school work I've had to do, so I only have the finished headband to show.  It's in purple (again - I took the pic at night so it doesn't look purple and my counter top looks yellow.... annoying...) and the flower is the one from the hat I am doing on my Wednesday post.

WIPW number 18

I am still making headbands for the craft show.  I have the band to show you and then on Friday you can see the flower I made for it.  I did a different flower pattern and really like this one better for the headbands.  Here is the "band" part"

Headband

It finally looks purple in this pic and not blue - yay!  I also decided to make a hat.  It's crochet which is always a bit of a challenge to me since I'm more of a knitter, but I really like the pattern shown here.  Here is the beginning of it:

T is for... Technology!

Happy Monday everyone!!!  Well, try to be as happy as you can for a Monday...  I am happy as I just found out that I am now a part of the Technology Committee at school/work.  For those of you who know me, it isn't that far fetched - our school is so back in the stone-age that I am one of the most tech-capable people in the building.  Really sad too because we have a lot of young people who just don't seem to want to be up on the latest that technology has to offer.  My vision for our committee is to do some grant writing to get Promethean boards for a few rooms (yes, mine had better be one of them!) and if possible, maybe a few ipads or other kinds of tablets.  I also think we need new laptops as the ones we have just spin and can't even stream videos anymore!  So, if anyone is good a grant writing and can give me a hint as to how to go about it, I'd appreciate it!!

I almost did T is for Tardis since I spent much of this weekend googling to find Dr Who themed centerpieces for Jarett's Bar Mitzvah.  I think I may end up buying action figure toys from Amazon and then figuring out a way to encase them and put them on a pedestal to make them taller.  They're only about 5 inches which is tiny for a centerpiece and I need about 15 different ones as that will determine which table people sit in.  Any thoughts on that too, please feel free to share!!  I'm in the US so that makes buying it a little more difficult as some of the UK sites won't ship here or charge an arm and a leg.  Anyway, that's it for my "T" post.  For more ABC's, visit Charlotte!

Squee Sunday post # 11

Welcome to another addition of Calohi's Squee Sunday!!  I have a few Squees, although some aren't quite Squees... you can decide.  First up (and this is sooo a Squee), I just got my nails redone - I wanted a French Manicure but then, being me, decided it was too "plain" looking.  So the woman that does them suggested some "tiger stripes" and again, me being me, went for purple!!!  I think they are so cute!!!!

New nail design

Next, and I'm not sure if this is a Squee or an OMG!!!  Matt, my oldest (16 and a half) went to his first concert last night with friends!!!  Blink 182 in NJ.  He drove to his friends' house, their mom drove and then he drove himself back home.  Now, for him this was a Squee - for me, I was up until literally 2 AM waiting for him to get home safe.  He was very responsible - he texted me here and there (first text was OMG - My Chemical Romance is playing too!)  Then a "too many smokers" text.  At 11 he sent they were leaving but then called at 11:45 to say they were just getting out of the parking lot!  He got home at 2 and said he had fun and that he'd tell me about it in the morning (which it already was but I wasn't going to bust on him).  So, he is still sleeping, I am blogging and have no idea how it was - although I'm sure it was awesome!!!

Last up, and again, not a squee really, I have a ton of papers to finish marking today.  The Squee part is, only two kids got a "C" on their reading test - the rest "A's and B's" so I felt like I taught the story very well.  The test is standardized from the program so it was a variety of inferential as well as concrete questions plus too essays....  so - partly Squee, but now I need to finish marking Social Studies and enter their grades which will take a few hours.  So, happy Sunday to all and don't forget to check out Calophi's Squees and others!

I'm sorry to post so late - school is taking up more time than I anticipated and I had so much to do during the morning and my prep!  Next time I need to post the night before!!  Anyway, here are two pics of the baby poncho and the headband.

This week I am working on a baby poncho for a friend.  It's from my free pattern page and I noticed a mistake in my count so it is now fixed!  Here it is:

I also am doing another head band.  It looks blue but is actually a deep purple:

"S" is for... scarves and school!

                                                           ABC+Banner.png

I couldn't decide which I wanted to share so I figured I'd post about both!  Really, they are just pics.  I found what is really supposed to be a jewelry holder but decided that it would make a great scarves holder for all the scarves I'm doing for the craft show.  I tried to get a couple different angles so you can see them all:

Scarves

Next, I thought I'd share a couple of pics of my classroom.  I am now up to 30 kids.  So much for the comfort of 27!  I knew that wouldn't last too long!!

School

My word wall isn't up yet on this one... it's only the first week so we haven't started our story yet. That'll come today and I'll put the first ten words up there.

Squee Sunday post # 10

I had a hard time finding something to squee about this week.  I'm back to work, I was going to squee about only 27 kids in my class but now I'm up to 30...  so, I did take this very cute pic of Bandit who apparently thinks he's going to drive the car....  Enjoy!

Bandit's ready to drive!

FO Friday!

Yay for Fridays!!!  I am exhausted from all these horrible thunder storms waking me up in the middle of the night!  I can't wait to sleep in a bit on the weekend - getting up at 5:30 is killing me!!  Anyway, even with all the tiredness and writing lesson plans, I've managed to have two projects to share.  The first is the cowl, which a few people asked about the yarn - it's not too bad as long as you pay attention to what is on your needle.  If you drop a stitch is a major pain to find it to pick up!! I don't know why the pic is so blurry - it didn't look blurry on my phone...

Cowl

The next is the head-band.  I'm not sure that I really like the poof on it.  For a little girl it may be cute, but I think I'll try a crochet flower for the next one  I do.

WIPW number 17

Another Wednesday, wow how time flies!!  Before I show my WIP, I had to to update you all that the 27 kids in my class was just a honeymoon after all...  Two more came today so I'm up to 29.  However, if you remember, I had 37 last year so this is still a blessing!!  Anyway, onto my WIP.  I have two things to share, and yes, they are for the craft show.  The first is a cowl:

Fun fur cowl

It's just a bunch of Fun Fur held together and knit in a K2P2 rib.  Next is a headband from Lion's Brand called Sparkling Headband.  I am actually using Plymouth Yarn Wildflower to do it though.

"R" is for... Return to Real life!

Summer vacation has come to end and now real life sets in...  Not that we had a vacation.  We worked at camp all summer and actually went back to school last week, but with Labor Day now here, the summer vacation time officially ends.  I'm looking forward to this school year.  So far things have had a positive spin.  We have a new principal who really seems to be all for the good of the child and "by the book."  If that is really how things will be, the school year will be a good one.  Also, right now, I have 27 kids on my roll.  Yes, 27!!!  Last year I had 37 - that's right - that was a "3" as in ten more kids than this year!!!  If that stays, I will be in my teaching glory!!  Imagine all the things you can do with 27 that was just way too much with 37.  I can see more groups and be effective in my time with them.  Just think about grading ten less papers - wow, this will be nice!  So, even though I am sad to see my summer break go, I have such a positive and hopeful outlook for this year that I am psyched for it to begin.

Squee Sunday post # 9

Happy Birthday to Bandit, Happy Birthday to Bandit, Happy Birthday to Bandit, Happy Birthday to Bandit!!

He's FIVE years old today!!!  We celebrated yesterday with a BBQ and he got to have some Filet Mignon!!

Birthday boy!

I LOVE this next pic.  He kept trying to come over to me so he's kind of funny looking with his head being all huge, but here he is this morning - a new 5 yr. old boy!

FO Friday!

It's another Friday and I have a few finished objects to share.  This will be quick since I'm back to work and need to do school related things!!  First is another of the Self Fringing Shawl:

Self fringe shawl

Next are the two "quickie" scarves - one in brown shades and the other in grays/black.  I know some of you thought it was in blues, but it's actually black and gray tones.
