FO Friday!

The Diamond Tail Scarf is finished!! Finito!!! Done!!! Unfortunately, it is still wet so I can't put it on but here it is blocking:

Here is a closer up pic (does that make sense???):

I can't wait to try it on, but since it's blocking in my basement it may take a couple more days to dry completely. I was very surprised with how much the yarn bled though. It was dyeing my skin a bit as I knit it, but when rinsing it to block, I had to literally soak it four times. Even then, the water was still tinged with purple. I lost my patience and blocked it anyway. Hopefully, I won't get wet while wearing it and turn my skin lovely shades of purpley blue! To see more FO's tune in to Tami's blog!

  1. Have you tried adding vinegar to help set dyes that are bleeding a lot? I heard it's supposed to help.

  2. Could I still do that even though I didn't dye the yarn? I bought it at the MS&W Festival... how would I do it?

  4. Yep, vinegar (or anything acidy like citric acid which smells better, or even invisible kool-aid if your stores carry that in the small packs) and heat will set it again. Some colors just tend to bleed a little more and the dye won't set completely. Was the water super colorful still after 4 rinses? Purples/blues/reds are the hardest for the yarn to take. You would have to soak the yarn (crock pot/stove/microwave works) in the acid to a point of almost but NOT boiling can help. Like I said, it might just be left over yarn that will never take though. Since the color is so dark, they might have just used too much dye. If you need more help, email me.

Anyway, it is lovely! Be sure to share pics of you wearing it once it's off the blocking mats!

  5. Thanks Tami! I think it just had a lot of extra color because the water did lighten up after all the soaks. We'll see after I wear it if my neck turns colors!!

  7. That looks lovely. I've never seen a scarf with that shape before, so I'm interested in seeing you wearing it. I hate yarns that don't want to stop bleeding. I dyed a few a long time ago with the hopes of selling them, but when I saw that they continued to bleed no matter how much I rinsed them, I decided to just keep them for myself.

  9. Your finished scarf is lovely. I'm sorry the yarn bled so much, but the color still looks very rich. Such an interesting shape.

  10. That looks so pretty! And it's such a fascinating shape!
Sorry to hear it's bleeding -- I experienced that with my FO this week, too. Bad dye, bad!!

  11. OMG, I love that shawl. It has such a Roaring 20's Art Deco look about it. I have no idea what I just said but it sounds good, doesn't it? Lovely, lovely, lovely!

  12. Oh wow, what a cool pattern! I second what April said about it having an Art Deco-ish look, and I love it. The open spaces create such a great look, and it's such a fun shape, too. I hope it dries really soon so you can try it on! (...Waiting for wet fibre goods to dry and be finished can be torture, omg. I live in a really humid climate and have been experimenting with wet-felting...)
